Van Bommel: “Bergwijn fit to face Vitesse”

PSV are back in Eredivisie action on Saturday when they entertain Vitesse in the Philips Stadion. Head coach Mark van Bommel previewed the game at his weekly press briefing at De Herdgang training facilities on Friday afternoon

Responsibility
Van Bommel first of all looked back at PSV’s KNVB Beker exit to RKC Waalwijk.  “I know the responsibility of being PSV manager. I handed a start to those eleven players after careful consideration and I don’t regret my choice. They are not as far as we thought they were. You can always lose a game but I was left disappointed with the way they slipped to defeat and that’s what I have told them. You must always give your all but they did not live up to those expectations.”

Positive signs
Van Bommel emphasised that PSV can build on the positive signs in the development of the players, though. “We can still do better, but we are on the right track. We do not always put on great displays but we win our games, which is a quality, just like taking your chances in the closing stages of a game.”

Vitesse
PSV’s head coach provided an injury update. “Steven Bergwijn, who missed the last three games against Tottenham Hotspur, FC Groningen and RKC Waalwijk through injury, has returned to full training and is fit to face Vitesse. He is a good players so we are happy to have him back. “ Van Bommel finally commented on Vitesse. "We are playing against a team who have proved they can take points off anybody. We always find it difficult to play against Vitesse, because they do not boast a distinct style of play. They are capable of adapting their game plan during a game, both in defence and in attack, more than any other league team. But we feel we are well-prepared for the Vitesse game.”
