Mark van Bommel, who is ready to begin his managerial career, has been appointed as coach of PSV U19’s team. The former Netherlands international will take charge of a team as head coach for the first time in his career.
Big step forward
Van Bommel says he is sure he is doing one big step forward in his managerial career. “It’s hard to plan anything in advance, but I have been considering my future options. I do not have head-coaching experience at any level. That’s why I have chosen to first take charge of a U19 team and try and put my ideas across to the young players.”
Ready to begin managerial career
Van Bommel currently works in the PSV youth department and will continue to serve as an assistant Bert van Marwijk on the Saudi Arabian national team ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. “I’ve gone a long way”, explains Van Bommel. “After I had decided to hang up my boots in 2013, I did a coaching course and a coaching internship placement with PSV U17. I tried to cast my net wide and find out what would be the best way for me to train a team. I now feel ready to take up that challenge.”
