With four games left, PSV are preparing for the hectic closing stages of the season. Mark van Bommel’s men host ADO Den Haag on Sunday in their penultimate home game of the 2018/19 campaign. Read our preview with key facts and figures ahead of the game.
Only two defeats
PSV slipped to only two defeats against ADO Den Haag in their last 52 encounters. They suffered a 3-0 defeat on the road in 1991 and last crashed to defeat on 5 February 2011 when ADO Den Haag ran out 1-0 winners in the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven.
Organised and compact defence
PSV are usually organised and compact in defence when they take on ADO Den Haag, having conceded just one goal in their seven previous matches. Tom Beugelsdijk converted from the spot in the 2016/17 season when PSV claimed a 3-1 victory.
Mark van Bommel’s have gained a strong reputation of scoring a winning goal at the death or in added time. They scored a great many eleven goals in the very closing stages, setting a new Eredivisie record.
Luuk de Jong
Luuk de Jong, with a mix of industry and inspiration, has scored 26 league goals this season so far. PSV’s captain scored ten opening goals for his team, more than any other Eredivisie player. Ajax’s Dušan Tadic and Heracles’ Adrian Dalmau gave their team the lead nine times.
Played every single minute
Jeroen Zoet and Luuk de Jong have played every single minute this season of 30 matches so far. Timmy Simons was the last PSV player who played the full 90 minutes of all Eredivisie fixtures, in the 2006/07 season when PSV were crowned champions.
Most yellow cards
Tom Beugelsdijk misses Sunday’s match due to suspension. He went into the referee’s notebook last weekend and is the player who has conceded most yellow cars (twelve). Other players who also picked up twelve yellow cards are RKC Waalwijks’Guy Ramos in the 2011/12 season, NAC Breda’s Joeri de Kamps in the 2014/15 season and FC Twente’s Cristián Cuevas in(FC Twente in the 2017/18)season. Pablo Rosario has been shown five yellow cards and is one booking away from suspension.
