Steven Bergwijn and Denzel Dumfries could not agree more. Speaking to the media after the 4-0 victory against Heracles Almelo, the two goal scorers admitted that they hoped for more of the same. “We will try to carry on like today.”
With a goal difference of 50 and fifteen wins from sixteen matches, PSV is the best performing Eredivisie team ever but two. Only the Ajax side of the 1995/96 season and PSV’s golden team from 1988 have better stats to offer. PSV netted four more goals in Almelo. Right back Denzel Dumfries was one of the players who got his name on the score sheet. “Maybe I should score more goals”, he said, smiling brightly.
‘Put in a fine performance’
“It’s always nice to score a goal and we are obviously happy with the win. We hope for more of the same”, said the full back. Dumfries saw PSV put in a fine performance. “I think we should be satisfied with the way we played and proud of our team performance.”
Steven Bergwijn, who had opened the scoring in Almelo, was in a more critical mood. “We were sloppy after the break against ten-man Heracles. We handed them a chance to get back into the game but it was game, set and match after our third goal. We must carry on like this.”
Steven Bergwijn scored a really beautiful goal. “It was freezing cold but scoring that goal was a heart-warming moment. I had to control the ball before I could wiggle my way past my marker and tap it home.”
