Denzel Dumfries scored a last-gasp winning goal at FC Groningen last season and the right back netted a carbon-copy goal in the 15th minute of Sunday’s clash to make sure of a hard-fought 1-0 victory. “We are happy to have taken thirteen points from our last five games”, said PSV’s captain after the game.
‘Poor second-half display’
Dumfries once again inspired his team mates to keep going until the final whistle and, showing determination and drive. was a fantastic example for everyone. His clinical finishing is remarkable and he made sure of three points with his 15th-minute strike at FC Groningen. “We produced a decent first-half performance and had chances to score some more goals. But I’m afraid we put in a poor second-half display”, admitted Dumfries. “We lost our rhythm and defended deeply and lacked tactical discipline up front. We made it hard for ourselves and should have carried on in the same vein after the interval.”
‘Unnerstall is a very good goalkeeper’
PSV players did not give interviews in the mixed zone after the match due to problems surrounding the coronavirus. PSV’s captain joined the post-match press conference of interim head coach Ernest Faber. He said he was delighted with goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall’s performance. “He is proving he is a very good goalkeeper. We are thankful to have him in our team.”
