PSV make a trip to the Hague on Sunday to face ADO Den Haag. Following the 2-2 draw at Roda JC on their last outing, PSV know they will not set up a new club record of most points in one season. Head coach Phillip Cocu, though, insists his players want to win the game, although nothing much is at stake. “The pressure is off but we will not freewheel towards the end of the season”, he said, speaking to the press at De Herdgang training ground on Friday afternoon.
The pressure is off
“The pressure that we felt ahead of the big game at home to Ajax is off but we always go out and look for a win. And we trained all week as we always do. It’s up to the placers to show that they can play some good football without feeling any pressure. Some players need pressure to perform well, others don’t.”
With two games to go, Cocu revealed he could make some changes. “One or two”, he said”. We cannot break a club record of most points on one season any more but we but we would like to win our two remaining games. We will certainly not freewheel towards the end of the season.”
Striker Luuk de Jong is ruled out for Sunday’s game after he picked up an injury in the 3-0 win over Ajax. Jeroen Zoet has joined the squad for full training again and will be PSV’s man between the sticks in Den Haag. Maxi Romero hopes he can battle back to fitness in time for next season. Cocu: “We signed him in the winter break so that he could adjust to the club, his new surroundings, the people here and our style of play, but obviously we had hoped he would have some game time under his belt. It’s been tough for him at times”, continued Cocu. “He came here with high expectations but just when we thought he could make his first start, he suffered a fresh injury setback. His team mates and coaching staff have taken good care of him and fortunately he aims to come back stronger.”
