Bruma came off the bench to score twice and help PSV to a comfortable 4-1 win against Fortuna Sittard on Sunday afternoon. Another substitute, Ritsu Doan broke the deadlock for Roger Schmidt’s team.
Terrific atmosphere
The 800 away fans generated most of the noise to show how vocal they are on their travels and created a terrific atmosphere in the Fortuna Sittard Stadium. Carlos Vinícius came close to meeting Philipp Max’s fine cross and fired the ball on target but saw his shot bounce off a defender. The Brazilian striker had another chance when Ibrahim Sangaré played a great through ball but he skewed his effort wide. Jordan Teze was the latest addition to PSV’s growing injury list. He sustained a muscle problem in the 15th minute and Ritsu Doan came off the bench to replace him. Phillipp Mweve took up Teze’s position at right back.
Ritsu Doan breaks deadlock
PSV pressed high and began to control the game, while the hosts had little to offer. André Ramalho unleashed a long-range shot that Fortuna goalkeeper Yanick van Osch, a former PSV custodian, saved with his second attempt. PSV looked to break down Fortuna’s compact defence and Ritsu Doan eventually broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. He started the move himself and created some space before playing in Eran Zahavi. The Israel international’s pass was perfect and Doan tapped home from close: 0-1.
Substitutions paid off
Roger Schmidt made one half-time substitution, bringing on Armindo Bruma for Phillipp Mwene. Mauro JR was the third PSV player to move to the right-back place. The Portuguese winger immediately made his mark when he put Vinícius clean through, but the Brazilian striker could not score from a tight angle. PSV doubled the lead in the 54th minute. Centre back André Ramalho played a tremendous long ball into the path of Bruma, who controlled the ball well and kept his composure when one-on-one with Van Osch: 0-2. Ivory Coast midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré made it three for PSV in the 72nd minute, at the end of a well-worked move, also involving Doan and Vinícius: 0-3
A three-goal margin
Fortuna Sittard pulled a goal back four minutes later. The hosts started a fast counter attack and Tijjani Noslin hit the inside of the post. The ball bounced back on the line into the sliding Ramalho who could not possibly be blamed for scoring an own goal: 1-3. PSV soon restored a three-goal margin. Vinícius held the ball well up front in the 85th minute and found Bruma who slotted home his second goal of the match. PSV earned a 4-1 routine win against Fortuna Sittard and have earned 27 points from twelve games. They will return to league action after the international break on Saturday 20 November when they welcome Vitesse at the Philips Stadion.
