Stunning Lammers goal not enough for PSV win

PSV were held to 1-1 draw by Fluminense in the second game of the 2018 Florida Cup. Sam Lammers scored a stunning goal on 42 minutes but PSV were denied victory as Robinho netted a stoppage-time equaliser. Defender Armando Obispo and goalkeeper Eloy Room made their full PSV debut.

Stunning goal from Sam Lammers
PSV head coach Phillip Cocu named a very young team for the game against Fluminense. Donyell Malen came close to taking the lead for PSV on ten minutes, clipping the top of Fluminense’s crossbar from a Dante Rigo corner. PSV dominated proceedings and Donyell Malen as well as Cody Gakpo had chances to break the deadlock for Phillip Cocu’s team. PSV got the breakthrough they deserved in the 42nd minute, when Sam Lammers turned two markers inside the box before superbly curling the ball into the far corner of the goal. A stunning strike.

Late equaliser
PSV registered the first chance of the second half. Donyell Malen’s cross found Adam Lundqvist, who was left completely unmarked at the far post. The Swede had the goal at his mercy but miskicked his shot. The Brazilians had little to offer as PSV again took control. Cocu made six changes with fifteen minutes remaining, among whom Hirving Lozano. The Mexican had a fine opportunity to double PSV’s lead but goalkeeper Julio Cesar pushed his effort away for a corner. PSV looked to have bagged the three points but Robinho slotted home a stoppage-time equaliser.
