Steven Bergwijn could not help but admitting that there is room for improvement, but was delighted with his glorious double that earned PSV a 2-1 victory at Sparta Rotterdam. “Winning is all that matters”, said Bergwijn after the game.
Goal of the season
PSV came from behind to beat Sparta Rotterdam 2-1. Bergwijn came to the rescue, netting a wonderful equaliser on the stroke of half-time, but his second goal ( a piledriver into the roof of the net) was a moment of pure class. “Did you score the goal of the season?”, he was asked after the game. “That would be great. I think I put on a decent display. I missed some chances last week, but things went well today. I am happy to have bagged a brace in our 2-1 win.”
“Keep moving towards our goal”
Head coach Phillip Cocu complimented the forward on the part he had played. ”We kept believing and never gave up. We earned three important points thanks to Steven Bergwijn’s wonderful strikes. We keep moving towards our goal.” Cocu was less happy about his side’s performance. “We lacked sharpness and were a goal down in no time. It served as a wake-up call; we gradually grew into the game and started to gain control. We had some chances but failed to make any of them count. Moreover Sparta were defensively well-organised. When we had taken the lead, we could not kill off the game and were happy to hold on to a 2-1 win”, concluded Cocu.
