PSV have to deal with a congested fixture list: sandwiched between the crucial UEFA Champion League playoff games with Benfica, Roger Schmidt’s team entertain SC Cambuur at the Philips Stadion on Saturday evening. PSV’s head coach previewed the Eredivisie game during his weekly press briefing on Friday afternoon.
A clear mission
PSV are facing a pile up of fixtures. Three days after their visit to Benfica, they play host to SC Cambuur. PSV unfortunately suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat in Lisbon, but Schmidt told the media that PSV will take the positives into the next game. “It’s good to be back in Eindhoven. We put on a fine display but should have score more goals. We created most chances but one goal was not enough to secure victory. It was hard for us to stay focused when we trailing 2-0 at half time, but we have shown fighting spirit and halved the deficit after the break. Of course I am not happy with the defeat, because we always want to win our games. So our mission on Tuesday is clear: only a win will do.”
All eyes are on this weekend’s encounter. PSV must get good results in the Eredivisie as well. Schmidt reiterated that his team need to exclusively focus on only the next match. “Newly-promoted Cambuur will be fully motivated and that winning feeling of last year will be alive in their squad. We look forward to a fine game of football. Cambuur will provide brave opposition and defend as a team. It’s up to us to be patient and find a way of breaking down their last line of defence."
