Schmidt: “A win is the only thing that mattered”

A place in the next round of the KNVB Beker, a clean sheet, no injuries sustained and a comeback from injury. PSV head coach Roger Schmidt was in a good mood when he looked back at the 2-0 Cup victory at home to Fortuna Sittard.

“Not that easy’
“We deserved to win but it was not that easy”, said PSV’s head coach, speaking after the game. “We face a hectic fixture schedule in December, but did not make the mistake of taking this Cup tie for granted. Fortuna Sittard had nothing to lose, so it was important for us to score an early goal. We could have done that before but at the end of the day a win is the only thing that mattered.”

‘A successful evening’
Richy Ledezma was given a tremendous boost when he made his comeback from a lengthy injury. “I am happy that he has made a comeback after a long period on the sidelines. I know it has been a tough period for him. Fortunately there are no fresh injuries to report, so we may look back at a successful evening”, concluded Roger Schmidt
