Ruud van Nistelrooij dreams of Champions League football

PSV head coach Ruud van Nistelrooij dreams of Champions League football but is quick to play down the ‘favourite’ tag at the same time. “We have plenty of ambition and drive and are eager to progress to the group stages of the tournament.”

Favourites
“When the draw was made, I thought we were not the red-hot favourites and I still think we are not in pole position. Rangers reached the Europa League final last season and they have kept the core of their team intact. And they have also signed some good players to bolster their squad.”

 Result at Ibrox
“We put on a fine display at Ibrox last week. We knew we would face a tall task: Rangers have an attractive style of play and the fans never stop supporting their team. We were impressed by the deafening noise but managed to play out a 2-2 draw, which is a fair result. We’ve obviously analysed the game and as we were not called into Eredivisie action last weekend, we had time to focus on some specific details. I hope and expect this will pay off.”

Hungry
“We are full of ambition and drive to play a good match of football but so are Rangers. I expect a tough and exciting game. The players are talking of only one thing. It’s a dream for all of us to play Champions League football and we will give our all to make it come true”, said Ruud van Nistelrooij.
