Roger Schmidt admitted to having mixed feelings after guiding his team to a 3-2 win over N.E.C. in his final home game as PSV head coach. He was happy to have taken all three points but felt disappointed not to have won the Eredivisie title.
‘Luck not always on our side’
“After 33 games, Ajax are on top and have deservedly been crowned champions”, said Schmidt, speaking to the press after the game. “I would like to congratulate them. Luck has not always been on our side as we had a fair share of injuries but we made the title race exciting until the end.”
‘We started the game brightly”
Schmidt was happy with the 3-2 win over N.E.C. “We want to gain as many points as possible. We started brightly today but were informed that Ajax had taken a solid lead in Amsterdam. We managed to win our game so all credit to the team.”
Final home game of the season
Schmidt took charge of PSV as head coach for the last time in the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven. The German manager will depart PSV at the end of the season. “It’s not on my mind yet. I’m looking forward to the final match day when we look to earn another three points away against PEC Zwolle. We will once more do our very best on Sunday”, concluded Schmidt.
