PSV will wave goodbye to and pay tribute to Phillip Cocu, Chris van der Weerden and Ruud Brood on Saturday evening, before the game between PSV and FC Groningen gets underway. The three coaches have gained huge successes with PSV before they left the club last summer, ready for a new challenge.
Return to the top of the table
Cocu and his assistant Van der Weerden guided PSV to three Dutch league titles. After a seven-year drought PSV won the league title in 2015 for the 22nd time in history. And PSV also clinched the title under Cocu in the 2015/16 and 2017/18 season. Brood, who joined PSV as assistant coach in the summer of 2016, also had a great impact on the team’s successes.
From 2013 to 2018
Cocu spent five seasons in Eindhoven, during which he won three league titles and two Dutch Super Cups. Moreover, PSV reached the UEFA Champions League round of 16 for the first time in nine years in the 2015/16 season. Cocu also won the KNVB Beker as caretaker manager in 2012. Ahead of Saturday’s league tie with FC Groningen, PSV General Manger Toon Gerbrands will make a short speech, thank the three coaches for all their efforts and hand them a present.
