PSV U21 suffer narrow defeat in Helmond

After securing a 3-2 victory against FC Eindhoven last Monday, PSV U21 looked to continue their winning streak at Helmond Sport in the SolarUnie Stadion on Friday night. It was a night to forget as they suffered a narrow defeat after a stuttering start to the second half.

A quiet start
After a quiet start to the game, the two teams created some half chances. The home crowd cheered in the 25th minute but a forward had fired the ball into the side netting. PSV in vain tried their luck from long range. It was goalless at the break.

Hatful of chances
The second half was far more entertaining than the first period and the hosts created a hatful of chances. Robin van der Meer put Helmond Sport ahead, producing a downward header from a corner: 1-0. PSV U21 fought themselves back into the game. Fodé Fofana, who bagged a brace last Monday, unleashed a long-range shot that went wide. PSV U21 threw everything forward and new signing Dante Sealy joined the attack. Cheick Touré  had a goal scoring opportunity in the closing stages but sent his effort over the bar.
