PSV U21 suffer late defeat to FC Den Bosch

PSV U21 head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy fielded a very young side, with an average age of 18 years and 6 months, including two debutants. They were the better side against FC Den Bosch in the first half, but, reduced to ten men in the 76th minute, suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in their first home game of the season.

PSV U21 dominated first half
Neither team managed to create a meaningful chance in the opening fifteen minutes. The first chance of the game fell to PSV U21. Ismael Saibari was pulled down on the edge of the penalty area but Nigel Thomas fired the resulting free kick over the bar. The hosts had their first chance in the 36th minute as the very young PSV U21 side dominated the first half

Winning goal in the 89th minute
FC Den Bosch’s striker was played clean through straight after the break but one-on-one with Youri Roulaux he had his effort saved by the PSV U21 keeper. Bakayoko had a great goal scoring opportunity in the 63rd minute but skewed his effort just wide. Nigel Thomas was sent off by referee Sam Dröge for a second yellow card in the 76th minute. PSV U21 looked to hold on for a goalless draw in the closing stages, but Jizz Hornkamp scored the winning goal with one minute remaining. FT: 0-1.
