PSV U21 suffer defeat at FC Emmen

PSV U21 welcomed back Jeremy Antonisse into the match squad as they took on FC Emmen on Friday night. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s youngsters fought hard and showed character but suffered a 2-0 defeat at De Oude Meerdijk.

 1-0  down
The match was played behind closed doors but several home fans made their presence count with a firework display outside the stadium. 19 minutes were on the clock when the hosts took the lead after Rui Mendes unleashed a long-range shot that sailed into the top corner of the net, beyond the reach of PSV U21 keeper Maxime Delanghe: 1-0. PSV U21 got into their rhythm and FC Emmen’s keeper pushed Mathias Kjølø’s effort away for a corner. At the other end, Nathan Markelo made a late goal line clearance to deny an FC Emmen forward. HT: 1-0.

Saibari went close
PSV U21 were the better team after the break  and attacking midfielder Ismael Saibari came close to scoring an equaliser, but he just could not connect with a cross. Saibari saw a penalty appeal waved away by the referee. The home side doubled their lead in the 57th minute, when Reda Kharchouch slotted home: 2-0.  PSV U21 tried to fight themselves back into the game but could not score a consolation goal, as they suffered their first defeat since October. FT: 2-0.
