PSV U21 held to a 1-1 draw by FC Dordrecht in final game of the season

PSV U21 played host to FC Dordrecht at Campus De Herdgang on Friday evening. This season’s reverse encounter ended in a 1-1 draw, but PSV U21 were favourites to win the final game of the 2021/22 season as they had made progress this season. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s youngsters created the better chances, dominated and controlled the game but dropped two points in a 1-1 draw.

Dominating display
While the sun was shining brightly, PSV U21 kicked off their last game of the season. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s game plan was clear: close down the opponents and fight for every inch. The first chance of the game fell to Simon Colyn who controlled the ball well but FC Dordrecht’s keeper Kiam Bossin made a vital stop to deny the Canadian striker. Defender Luis Felipe was twice in a promising position but his headers only hit the post. The deadlock was finally broken in the 32nd minute when Colyn headed home from a perfect cross delivered by Johan Bakayoko. The visitors from Dordrecht had one chance on the counter attack but Livano Comenencia made a sturdy block and the chance went begging. HT: 1-0.

Flashback

Johan Bakayoko tested FC Dordrecht shot stopper Kiam Bossin with a powerful effort as the second half continued in more or less the same way as the first period. Bakayoko sent in another sweet cross but Colyn’s shot went just over the bar. FC Dordrecht gradually fought themselves back into the game and Kjell Peersman made a fine save to keep his team in the game. Full right back Cheick Touré made a late clearance as PSV U21 seemed to be heading for a narrow win but Jari Schuurman slotted home in the 90th minute to give the visitors a share of the spoils. FT: 1-1.
