PSV U21 fight back to earn a point

PSV U21 fought back and put in a spirited second-half display against Roda JC to earn a 1-1 draw at PSV Campus De Herdgang on Monday evening.

Amar Catic  made a return from injury for PSV U21. The Bosnia and Herzegovina U21 international fired the first shot of the game on target but Roda JC goalkeeper Muyters saved his effort. Chances were far and few between in a rather uneventful first half. Catic produced most goal threat but could not find the back of the net. The visitors took the lead on 26 minutes. A miskick fell into the path of Ugbo, who slotted home, leaving Mike van de Meulenhof with no chance. HT: 0-1.

Deserved point
Peter Uneken’s team started the second half brightly and came close to an equaliser on the hour mark. Substitute Sekou Sidibe picked out Cyril Ngonge and the Belgian forward drilled a low shot in: 1-1. Roda JC started to press high up the pitch and Van de Meulenhof made a string of fine saves to keep his team in the game. Ngonge, Sidibe and Tijn Daverveld threatened on the break but PSV U21 lacked the killer touch. Roda JC threw everyone forward in the closing stages but PSV U21 bravely held on for a deserved point.

PSV U21 line-up:
Van de Meulenhof; Teze (46/De Haas), Soulas, Daverveld, Theunissen (85/Zeegers); Gomes, Schoonbrood, Ledezma; Ngonge, Catic (46/Sidibe), Mendonca.
