PSV U21 drew 2-2 with FC Den Bosch in the opening game of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie season on Monday evening. Mohammed Ihattaren struck twice for Peter Uneken’s team but Justin de Haas’ sending off was the turning point of the game.
Ihattaren struck twice
Zakaria Aboukhlal had two chances for PSV U21 in the opening stages of the game but the visitors from Den Bosch took the lead on eight minutes. Abdullahi unleashed a well-placed shot that came off the underside of the bar before it crossed the line: 0-1. Peter Uneken, who took charge of PSV U21 for the first time, urged his players to go forward. Aboukhlal had a goal disallowed but Mohamed Ihattaren struck twice to put his team ahead. He curled a free kick into the top corner on 26 minutes before applying another cool finish in the 44th minute. HT: 2-1.
De Haas sent off
Uneken made two half-time changes, introducing Ledezma and Daverveld for Ihattaren and Teze. The game was turned upside down eight minutes into the second half, when captain De Haas was sent off for a professional foul on Trotman and Verbeek converted the resulting free kick: 2-2. A resilient ten-man PSV U21 side were made to defend deeply and held out for a draw. Aboukhlal had another chance but the winger could not put the ball into the net, while Toni Lato made a late goalline clearance to rescue a point for his side.
