PSV U21 extended their fine run with a 3-1 victory in a thrilling game against in-form MVV Maastricht at PSV Campus De Herdgang on Easter Monday afternoon.
The first chance of the game fell to Joël Piroe who controlled Jeremy Antonisse's cross well and created some space in the 11th minute, but the MVV keeper made a save to deny him. But Piroe needed no second invitation when Antonisse swung in another sweet cross. The striker got ahead of his marker and scored with a delightful backheel at the near post: 1-0. MVV produced their first goal threat on the brink of half time when a free kick rattled the bar. HT: 1-0.
Thrilling second half
Piroe had a huge chance to double PSV U21’s lead straight after the restart but hit the post. He was made to rue the missed chance when Joy-Lance Mickels beat keeper Vincent Müller with a swerving lob to put MVV back on level terms in the 56th minute. Right back Shurandy Sambo sparked the game into life in the 79th minute when he put PSV U21 in front for the second time again with a shot from 20-yards out. MVV were reduced to ten men when Manuel Angiulli was shown a straight red card in the 89th minute for an elbow on a PSV U21 player. Nigel Thomas pumped a long ball into the path of substitute Kristófer Kristinsson who slotted home in the second minute of added time. FT: 3-1.
