Sam Lammers and Albert Gudmundsson scored a first-half goal each to help PSV U21 to a 2-0 victory against FC Utrecht U21 at De Herdgang training facilities on Monday night. The Icelander had a second goal ruled out for offside.
Although the rain came pouring down, PSV U21 immediately turned up the heat. Mauro singled out Gudmundsson who sent his shot straight at the goalkeeper. The home side took the lead through Sam Lammers on 26 minutes. Dante Rigo played Sam Lammers clean through and the striker found himself in acres of space to finish off the attack for the opening goal: 1-0. PSV U21 came really close to doubling the lead minutes later when Donyell Malen and Mauro were on their way to the goal, but the former’s final pass lacked accuracy. PSV took a two-goal advantage on 41 minutes. Mauro started a mazy solo run and laid the ball off to Albert Gudmundsson, who rounded FC Utrecht U21 goalkeeper Nijhuis before comfortably slotting home a peach of a goal. HT: 2-0.
Chances to make it three
The second half continued in the much the same vein as the first had ended. Dennis Haar’s played attacking football and had plenty of chances to make it three. Albert Gudmundsson came close in the 53rd minute but Nijhuis pulled off a save to deny him. Sam Lammers also came close on two occasions. He sent an effort over the bar and saw a shot cleared off the line. Gudmundsson found the back of the net fifteen minutes from time but the Icelander had the goal ruled out for offside, while Dante Rigo skewed his effort wide.
