PSV suffered a 5-3 defeat away at RSC Anderlecht in a topsy-turvy game. Assistant coach Ernst Faber fielded two different teams during the first pre-season friendly of the new season. .
PSV the better team before the break
Due to worries about safety to the supporters, the match was played behind closed doors. It was an entertaining affair from start to finish. The Belgian giants opened the scoring on five minutes, when Musona capitalised on miscommunication between PSV goalkeeper Eloy Room and Denzel Dumfries, who made his PSV debut. Parity was soon restored by captain Luuk de Jong who headed home Bart Ramselaar’s cross. Anderlecht had two opportunities but only hit the post and the bar. The goal was scored at the other end on 22 minutes, when Gastion Pereiro curled home a free kick. One minute later, Donyell Malen could have extended PSV’s lead but he struck the woodwork. HT: 1-
Three goals in four minutes
The new PSV team conceded two goals in quick succession, straight after the break but Steven Bergwijn levelled the core barely one minute later: 3-3. Anderlecht took the lead in the 65th minute, when Dimata scored from the penalty spot and Santini made it 5-3 ten minutes before the final whistle went. FT: 5-3
