PSV slip to defeat against De Graafschap in dying seconds

PSV U21 took the lead twice against De Graafschap but Peter Uneken’s side succumbed to a late 3-2 defeat at Campus De Herdgang on Monday evening.

Classy finish
The first chance of the game fell to Cyril Ngonge but the forward could not apply the proper finish to Chris Gloster’s pass. Minutes later, Ngonge sent an effort straight at De Graafschap goalkeeper Hidde Jurjus, on loan from PSV. Richy Ledezma came close midway the first half but steered his shot just wide. Captain Jordan Teze prevented a counter attack. A 39th-minute goal by Yorbe Vertessen gave PSV U21 a 1-0 half-time lead. The Belgian created space for himself, cut inside the box and opened the scoring with a classy finish.

Second-half comeback
The visitors took control after the break and Mohamed Hamdaoui netted an equaliser six minutes into the second half. Shurandy Sambo and Noni Madueke started a number of flowing moves and Madueke was unlucky to only rattle the post. Peter Uneken made his first change on 76 minutes, bringing on Sekou Sidibe for Robin Schoonbrood. The substitution soon paid dividends as the Belgian striker put PSV U21 ahead again in the 86th minute: 2-1. Things looked bright for Peter Uneken’s team but De Graafschap scored two late goals in quick succession to make it a night to remember. Ralf Seuntjes netted an equaliser in the 88th minute and Branco van den Boomen netted the winning goal in the dying seconds.
