PSV record 5-0 win over ten-man Fortuna Sittard

PSV extended their lead to five points at the top of the Eredivisie after a 5-0 victory against Fortuna Sittard in the Philips Stadion on Sunday afternoon. A moment of pure class
A minute’s silence was held in tribute to former PSV player Jurrie Koolhof who died at the age of 59. PSV got on their front-foot in the opening exchanges. Captain Luuk de Jong saw his lob saved by Fortuna Sittard goalkeeper Alexei Koselev on seven minutes. One minute later, Gaston Pereiro opened the scoring for PSV with a moment of pure class. The Uruguayan robbed Andrija Balić off the ball and superbly curled it past the keeper from the edge of the penalty area: 1-0.

Fortuna reduced to ten men
Donyell Malen, who replaced Hirving Lozano, went into the referee’s notebook on 13 minutes for a reckless challenge. Pereiro came close to doubling PSV’s lead in the 23rd minute. He weaved his way through the defence, slipped, got up and narrowly missed the target. PSV saw most of the ball and Pablo Rosario beautifully pulled the ball across the goal for Denzel Dumfries but Koselev made a fine save to deny the right back. The visitors were reduced to ten men on 32 minutes when Clint Essers was sent off. He was shown a second yellow card for a deliberate handball and consequently sent for an early shower.

Luuk de Jong scores 100th goal for PSV
Van Bommel made one half-time substitution, bringing on Cody Gakpo for Donyell Malen. It soon paid dividends. Gakpo delivered the cross and Luuk de Jong stooped and headed in his 100th goal in a PSV shirt: 2-0. PSV dominated spells of play and Gakpo gave them a three-goal cushion on 56 minutes. Steven Bergwijn provided the assist and Gakpo cut into the box and fired home a powerful effort into the top of the net to open his first-team scoring account : 3-0.

Steven Bergwijn sustains calf injury
Steven Bergwijn picked up a serious-looking calf injury in the 64th minute following an awkward landing. He was stretchered off and 16-year-old Mohammed Ihattaren came off the bench to replace him. Eredivisie top scorer Luuk de Jong netted his seventeenth goal of the season in the 76th minute. Angelino steamed down the line and put in another pinpoint cross for De Jong to convert: 4-0. Van Bommel made his final change with eleven minutes remaining, with Gutierrez coming on for Rosario. De Jong completed his hat-trick on 87 minutes. After Ihatteren had hit the post, the ball fell to Pereiro who crossed for De Jong to head in from close range: 5-0.
