PSV ready to meet bogey club sc Heerenveen

One day after guiding his team to a convincing 2-0 win over Sturm Graz, PSV’s head coach Roger Schmidt spoke to the press ahead of his side’s trip to bogey club sc Heerenveen on Sunday. “It will be a tough encounter but we are confident we can win the game”, said Schmidt on Friday afternoon.

A positive mood
Schmidt was in a positive mood when he reflected on Thursday’s UEFA Europa League tie. “It was a good performance and we fully deserved our win. We dictated play and were comfortable on the ball.“  Schmidt wants his team to keep the momentum. “We were in-form against Vitesse and Sturm Graz was the next hurdle we overcame.”

Tough encounter
Schmidt said that PSV will take the positives from the Sturm Graz match into the next game. “We are in good shape but have little time left to thoroughly prepare for the next test. It will be a tough encounter but we are confident we can win the game.” Schmidt had been told that PSV have had some hard times against sc Heerenveen the past few seasons but insisted his team will do their very best to take all three points back home to Eindhoven. He looked back at last season’s corresponding encounter. “I have some good memories of that game. We were trailing 2-1 but snatched a point with a last-minute goal. That match could have gone either way.” Schmidt is aware of the threat posed by sc Heerenveen’s quality players like Joey Veerman. "He sends some lovely crosses into the box and it’s up to us to find a solution.”

Man of the match
Ritsu Doan was named man of the match on Thursday. “All credits to him”, confirmed Schmidt. “He is enjoying a fine spell, feels fit and is brimming with confidence. He did not feature for the national team, but has now taken the opportunity to show his technical and tactical skills. He is fully focused on his game and is feeling good.”
