PSV head coach Roger Schmidt previewed his side’s KNVB Beker tie at home to Fortuna Sittard during a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon. “We face a congested schedule with fixtures on Wednesday and Sunday, but we feel we are ready for the challenge with our in-form players.”
Knockout tournament
Schmidt thinks the TOTO KNVB Beker is ‘a special tournament’. "It is a knockout competition and I like that. We will do our best to run out winners on Wednesday night and progress to the next round. We would ultimately like to play the final. We take the Cup tournament seriously and certainly don’t lack motivation.”
Find solutions
PSV met Fortuna Sittard in an Eredivisie game in November. They claimed a 4-1 away win and PSV’s head coach knows what to expect. "Fortuna Sittard play a well-organised defence and look to strike on the counter attack, like they did against PEC Zwolle last weekend. We must try to find solutions to unlock their defence and I am confident we can manage to do that.”
Conference League
Schmidt made time to look back at Monday’s UEFA Conference League draw. "There’s quite a few good teams that compete in the Conference League, including Maccabi Tel Aviv. It will be a special game for Eran Zahavi, who once plied his trade with Maccabi Tel Aviv.
