PSV have reached agreement with FC Pachuca on a transfer of 21-year-old Hirving Lozano.
Lozano said yes
PSV have reached agreement with FC Pachuca on the transfer of the Mexico international. Lozano paid a flying visit to the Netherlands on Monday, with the approval of the Mexican FA, in order to undergo a medical. The Mexican has said yes to the agreement and will sign a contract with PSV, tying him to the club until the summer of 2023. After signing his contract, the Mexican will take a short break before joining his new team-mates for pre-season training and preparations for the UEFA Europa League play-offs.
Marcel Brands’ reaction
PSV Football Director Marcel Brands revealed his delight at securing a truly great player. “I am happy we have done it in the end. It took over six months and a lot of creativity to complete the move.”
PSV’s new summer signing has been a youth international at various levels. He represented his country at the CONCACAF in 2015 and was the star of the tournament. He scored five goals and won the Golden Boot award, tied with United States player Roman Gall. The striker was also named in the best team of the tournament. Lozano made his senior debut for Mexico in February 2016 and scored two goals in fifteen appearances.
Hirving Lozano follows in the footsteps of compatriots Carlos Salcido, Francisco ‘Maza’ Rodriguez, Andrés Guardado and Héctor Moreno and is the fifth Mexican signing in the history of the club. Lozano is popularly referred to by his nickname ‘El Chucky’, in his homeland. Team mates called him ‘El Chucky’, the title character of the Child’s Play horror film series, because he would often scare the hell out of them by screaming at them under a bed during trips and training camps.
