PSV look to end a poor spell against sc Heerenveen

The Eredivisie returns to action, with PSV hosting sc Heerenveen on Sunday. Mark van Bommel’s side look to make amends for a poor run. They registered a 3-0 victory in last season’s corresponding encounter in the Philips Stadion, thanks to a brace from Hirving Lozano and a wonder strike from Luuk de Jong.

Bicycle kick
Luuk de Jong found the net with a fantastic bicycle kick, one of the most memorable goals he ever scored in a PSV shirt. PSV slipped to just one defeat in their previous 19 home games against the Frisians. All in all, PSV recorded 35 wins and 15 draws against sc Heerenveen and suffered 13 defeats. Mateja Kežman often had reason to celebrate. The Serb striker netted eight goals against sc Heerenveen.

Match day 31
PSV clinched the Eredivisie title twice after a win over sc Heerenveen. They were crowned champions on match day 31 of the 2000/01 season, following a 3-0 win. Mark van Bommel put in a man-of-the-match performance, with a goal and an assist.

Arnold Bruggink and Mateja Kežman also got their names on the score sheet. PSV also won the title on match day 31 in the 2014/15 season, when Memphis, Luciano Narsingh and Luuk de Jong (2) were on target to secure a 4-1 win over the Frisian side.

PSV claimed four emphatic 5-1 wins over sc Heerenveen: in the 1995/96 season, in the 2011/12 campaign(2) and in the 2012/13 season.

Third place
PSV are currently lying in third place in the Eredivisie table, with 24 points from 13 games. Sc Heerenveen are seventh with 21 points. They beat Sparta Rotterdam 2-1 on their last outing, extending an unbeaten run to seven matches (4 wins and 3 draws).
