PSV are level on points with Ajax again after they recorded a deserved 2-1 win over De Graafschap at the Philips Stadion on Sunday afternoon. Burgzorg opened the scoring for the visitors but Bergwijn levelled from the spot and Luuk de Jong scored the winner after the break.
PSV trail one goal at half-time
PSV head coach Mark van Bommel made two changes in midfield, handing a start to Michal Sadílek and Mohamed Ihattaren. De Graafschap did not lean back in the evenly fought out opening stages. The first chance fell to PSV on 15 minutes. A long ball was flicked on by Luuk de Jong into the path of Hirving Lozano but the Mexican hit the outside of the post. PSV began to see more of the ball and five minutes later, Luuk de Jong wildly fired into the side netting. PSV were sometimes sloppy in possession and the visitors took the lead on 26 minutes. Owusu sent in an inviting cross and Delano Burgzorg nodded home from close range: 0-1. PSV responded quickly and Denzel Dumfries hit the post before De Jong sent a header straight at De Graafschap keeper Nigel Bertrams. Luuk de Jong just could not connect with Dumfries’ cross and his free header went wide. De Graafschap threatened on the counter attack and Serrarens put an effort across the face of goal. PSV got a glorious chance to level. Bertrams saved Bergwijn’s shot. The ball fell to Lozano who fired wide, with the goal at his mercy. Seconds later, the Mexican had the ball in the net, but his goal did not stand as de Jong, who had hit the bar, was adjudged to have been offside. HT: 0-1.
Bergwijn levels from the spot- De Jong scores winner
Mark van Bommel made one change at half-time bringing on Donyell Malen for Ihattaren. PSV burst out of the blocks after the restart. Steven Bergwijn forced a save out of Bertrams as PSV laid siege to De Graafschap’s goal. Rosario’s rising shot went flying over the bar. Another big chance went begging when De Jong was thwarted by Bertrams from four yards out. It was all square again on 63 minutes. Lozano was brought down in the box and referee Lindhout pointed at the spot. Steven Bergwijn stepped up and sent Bertrams the wrong way: 1-1. PSV went in search of a winner. Luuk de Jong scored his 26th goal of the season to hand them the lead on 73 minutes. Dumfries burst down the right flank and PSV’s captain got ahead of his marker to slide home: 2-1. Jeroen Zoet kept PSV in the game, pulling off a reflex save to prevent Daniel Schwaab from heading into his own goal. FT: 2-1
