Mark van Bommel and his players were left frustrated after PSV were held to a goalless draw in the Philips Stadion by LASK Linz. PSV dominated the game, created chances but did not take them and hit the woodwork twice. Kosta Mitroglou came on as a substitute in the closing stages to bolster the attack but it was not to be.
PSV’s head coach Mark van Bommel hailed a fine performance from his team. “We were held to a 0-0 draw but deserved to win. We played some good football the first thirty minutes in particular. We let ourselves down”, said Van Bommel, who was impressed by Steven Bergwijn’s performance. “He put in a sparkling display. He was outstanding tonight.” Bergwijn clutched his hamstring when sprinting for the ball in the closing stages, but told his coach he could carry on.
Speaking to the media after the game, Bergwijn said that he did not feel anything until he started to sprint. “At first I felt a pain but then it went away and I though I could continue. But eventually I felt my hamstring get tight. The medical team will assess tomorrow”, said Bergwijn.
