PSV cruised past SC Genemuiden to reach the next round of the KNVB Cup with an easy 6-0 win. Phillip Cocu´s men were leading 1-0 on the hour mark, thanks to a goal from Luuk de Jong but ran riot against the amateur side once they had extended their advantage. Pereiro bagged a hat-trick, while Pröpper and Moreno also found the back of the net.
De Jong opened the scoring
PSV started well with the mainly young home fans in full voice. Captain Luuk de Jong opened the scoring on eight minutes, heading home Davy Pröpper´s corner past SC Genemuiden keeper Flier, who put in an excellent display: 1-0. PSV had plenty of chances to double the lead but the chances went begging with a poor final pass. De Jong was one-on-one with Flier, only to be denied by a good save. The visitors came close to scoring an equaliser on the stroke of half-time, but Lip, at the end of a flowing move, rifled a shot just wide.
Four goals in seven minutes
After Korf had created the first chance for SC Genemuiden after the break, PSV stepped up a gear and scored four goals in just seven minutes´ time. De Jong set up Gastón Pereiro to extend PSV´s advantage in the 61st minute and Pereiro made it three barely two minutes later. Pröpper scored the fourth goal of the evening with a well-struck long distance shot and 68 minutes were on the clock when Héctor Moreno´s free header from a corner rocketed into the top corner of the net: 5-0. The crowd did a Mexican wave and Rai Vloet, Steven Bergwijn and Jordy de Wijs, who have all risen through the youth ranks with PSV, were given game time by Phillip Cocu.
Pereiro collected the match ball
And there was more to come in the Philips Stadion. Pereiro completed his hat-trick in the closing stages of the KNVB Cup tie and the winger from Uruguay proudly left the field with the match ball, a just reward for having bagged three goals in a single game.
