PSV crowned Eredivisie champions after a 4-1 win

PSV have secured the Dutch Eredivisie title for the first time since 2008 and 22nd overall after claiming a 4-1 win over sc Heerenveen at the Philips Stadion on Saturday night. Luuk de Jong scored two headers in the first half, while Depay curled home a trademark free-kick. Luciano Narsingh netted PSV´s fourth goal with two minutes remaining.

Dream start
An unchanged PSV side started in fifth gear and were soon rewarded for their attacking ideas. Only three minutes were on the clock when Luuk de Jong headed home Narsingh´s cross at the far post and the atmosphere at the Philips Stadium was absolutely electrifying: 1-0. It was a dream start for PSV in front of the excited home fans and Narsingh rounded two defenders before firing into the side netting on 10 minutes. PSV were the better side from the outset and doubled their lead in the 24th minute, when they won a free kick after Otigba had handled the ball. Memphis stepped up to curl home a trademark free-kick from twenty yards out, an absolute scorcher: 2-0. The visitors refused to throw the towel and reduced the deficit on 27 minutes when Joey van den Berg prodded home Marzo´s cross: 2-1. PSV could have regained a two-goal advantage seven minutes later but Wijnaldum and Maher failed to capitalise on some sloppy sc Heerenveen defending and Memphis rifled an effort the wrong side of the post. PSV right back Joshua Brenet was forced off with injury on 35 minutes and Abel Tamata came off the bench to replace him. Luuk de Jong did restore PSV´s two-goal advantage four minutes before the half-time whistle. This time Jetro Willem delivered the perfect cross (it was his 12th assist of the season) and the striker up front scored another brilliant glancing header, taking his tally for the season to nineteen. Half-time score: 3-1.

PSV had the first chance after the break, but Narsingh blasted the ball over the bar from close range on 55 minutes. PSV kept going and four minutes Luuk de Jong in vain tried his luck with a shot on the turn. The supporters were already on cloud nine but sc Heerenveen did not give up and Joey van den Berg forced Jeroen Zoet into an excellent save. With twenty minutes remaining the home fans started singing: “Stand up for the champions”. Adam Maher made way for Jorrit Hendrix on 78 minutes and he was given a standing ovation. Luuk de Jong thought he had completed a hat-trick in the 82nd minute, but sc Heerenveen goalkeeper Nordfeldt somehow made a miracle save to deny him. The atmosphere generated by the PSV fans was most impressive as stewards handed out 35,000 paper championship trophies. And the noise was really deafening when Luciano Narsingh made it 4-1, slotting home ´s a cross from the right at the far post, with two minutes remaining. All the fans were partying in the stands in the stadium and burst into wild celebrations as the final whistle blew: PSV have clinched the Dutch league title!.
