PSV claimed their first win in five seasons against Feyenoord in the Rotterdam Kuip on Sunday afternoon. Second-half goals by Héctor Moreno and Luciano Narsingh helped Phillip Cocu's side to a 2-0 win in their first competitive game of the new year.
Locadia produced goal threat
After a tentative first ten minutes, Feyenoord began to take control and pushed PSV back into their own half. Left back Nelom had a swerving shot saved by Jeroen Zoet. PSV threatened for the first time after thirty minutes, when Locadia, left unmarked, sent a shot straight at Vermeer, who made another save to deny the forward on the stroke of half time. Kramer had the best chance of the first period but miskicked Vilhena's cross completely.
Moreno scored opening goal on his birthday
The tables were turned after the break. PSV burst out of the blocks and took the lead five minutes into the second half. Pröpper rounded his marker on the edge of the penalty area and sent in an inviting cros that Moreno, who celebrated his 28th birthday today, headed home at the far post: 0-1. Feyenoord replied almost immediately when Dirk Kuyt wiggled his way through the PSV defence before firing only into the side netting. The hosts threw everything forward in search of an equaliser but failed to create any chances of note. The game was over as a contest five minutes before the final whistle went. Guardado sent a long ball into the path of substitute Narsingh. who kept his cool when he was one-on-one with Feyenoord goalkeeper Vermeer and coolly slotted home PSV's second goal of the afternoon. PSV have extended their lead over third-placed Feyenoord to five points.
