Post-match conference | Bosz: 'We are happy Luuk de Jong plays for PSV'

PSV secured a 1-0 victory against RC Lens in the Philips Stadion on Wednesday night. Peter Bosz’s side jumped from bottom to second in the UEFA Champions League group B. Captain Luuk de Jong scored the only goal of the match with a trademark well-timed header from a Johan Bakayoko cross.

PSV right back Jordan Teze played the full 90 minutes. He told the media after the game that PSV were forced to change their game plan. “The French visitors pressed intensely and we could not start many flowing moves. Our captain knows what it takes to play at this high stage and he told us to start playing long balls.”

PSV head coach Peter Bosz thought the home game against RC Lens was different from the first leg in France. “This game soon developed into a tough physical battle. We saw more of the ball in France, while we struggled to retain possession tonight. Their wing backs closed down our backs very solidly. That’s why we were restricted to playing long balls. All credit to the lads, because this is not the style of play they are used to.”

Excellent goal
Peter Bosz paid tribute to several players, in particular to Luuk de Jong and Jerdy Schouten. “Jerdy always keeps his composure and is comfortable on the ball. I am not manager of the Dutch national team but if I were I would certainly include him in my squad. And our captain used his height to send a great header into the net from a relatively slow cross. He is a team player and leads by example. We are so happy he plays for PSV.”
