PLIC | PSV U21 win Premier League International Cup

PSV U21 are the Premier League International Cup winners after they defeated Crystal Palace 3-1 in the final, after extra-time. After ninety minutes Selhurst Park Stadium in Londen on Tuesday night, it was 1-1, so the match went into extra time. PSV won the prestigious international tournament, thanks to extra-time goals from Jason van Duiven and Simon Colyn.

PSV U21 earned a number of impressive, sometimes even emphatic victories on route to the final, but these wins were obviously no guarantee for a success in the last match of the tournament. American striker Dante Sealy realised that and opened the scoring for PSV U21 with a low finish: 0-1. Scott Banks responded for Crystal Palace with an unstoppable effort: 1-1.

No team scored in the second half, so the game went in to extra time. It was then that Jason van Duiven, the prolific striker with fifteen goals in the Dutch second tier, restored PSV U21’s lead from close range. Shortly after the Canadian Simon Colyn put the result beyond doubt with a well-struck free kick. PSV U21 captain Mathijs Tielemans was the first player to lift the trophy.
