
PSV U21 showed great resilience to come back from 3-2 down to beat Blackburn Rovers FC 5-3 in their third Premier League International Cup Group A game. Five different goal scorers got their names on the score sheet for PSV in the eight-goal thriller.
Wil Boessen’s team had several new faces in the starting line-up. Bram Rovers, Muhlis Dağaşan, Koen Jansen and Julian Kwaaitaal were the only players who started against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. Iggy Houben, who was introduced as a substitute against the ‘Wolves’, opened the scoring for PSV in the tenth minute before Igor Tyjon netted an equaliser fifteen minutes later. The hosts took the lead on 35 minutes when James Edmondson converted a spot kick, but Julian Kwaaitaal put PSV back on level terms on the stroke of half time. HT: 2-2. Blackburn Rovers regained the lead in the 63rd minute when Igor Tyjon found Jake Batty, who slotted home: 3-2.
PSV U21 showed togetherness and resilience as they went in search of an equaliser again. Substitute Elvic Jager found the back of the net in the 72nd minute and Jevon Simons and substitute Robin van Duiven scored goals in the closing stages to complete a successful comeback and seal a 5-3 victory. PSV U21, competition holders, are now second in Group A, behind leaders Leeds United FC.
