PSV head coach Phillip Cocu claimed he only has one thing on his mind: regain top spot in the Dutch Eredivisie. He did not look back too much at PSV’s and Feyenoord’s good performances in a European competition last week. “I could divert on Tuesday’s display but actually a home win against Feyenoord on Sunday is all that matters”, he said at his weekly press briefing at De Herdgang training facilities.
‘PSV and Feyenoord are well-matched’
Cocu emphasised that he is very keen to regain top spot in the Dutch Eredivisie but he realises that his team will face a tall task when they take on the Rotterdam outfit. “Feyenoord have been putting together a string of good results so far. I predicted at the start of the season that three teams, Feyenoord, Ajax and PSV, will dominate the Eredivisie title race. And look what they have achieved!,” said Cocu, also referring to Feyenoord’s 1-0 win over Manchester United.
Cocu expects ‘a pulsating game’
PSV’s head coach is satisfied with the progress his team has made. “We feel confident and can hold our heads high after we tested ourselves against last season’s UEFA Champions League finalists. We are really looking forward to a pulsating game between two teams who are well-matched. I am sure it will be a very entertaining encounter.”
Jürgen Locadia, who had come to De Herdgang to see his team in action in training, is ruled out of Sunday’s game with a serious groin injury. Siem de Jong will start for PSV U21 tonight and may be called up to Sunday’s match squad, said Cocu, who added that Oleksandr Zinchenko is ‘very doubtful ‘for Sunday’s clash. “He came through today’s training session fine and we will first wait and see how he does on Saturday before we make any decision”, concluded Cocu.
