News | Luuk de Jong retires from international football

PSV captain Luuk de Jong has announced his retirement from international football. The striker opts to focus on his club football with PSV the next few seasons. De Jong has made 39 appearances for the Netherlands.

The 32-year-old striker is proud to have represented his country for such a long time. “It has always been an honour to be part of the Dutch national team. But I have now decided it’s the right time for me to retire internationally. The Netherlands will start a new qualifying campaign for the Euro 2024 in Germany. I want to focus 100% on PSV for the next few seasons.”

Debut
The World Cup in Qatar was the last campaign for Luuk de Jong as an international. The striker, born in Switzerland, made his debut for the Oranje, at the age of twenty, when manager Bert van Marwijk handed him his debut in the 3-1 win over Austria on 9 February 2011. He bagged a brace in the 2-0 victory against Finland in the same year. De Jong scored eight times in 39 appearances for the Netherlands, adding one assist.
