Hirving Lozano was unable to make the difference in the first eighty minutes in the tense contest at VVV-Venlo, but he was outstanding in the final ten minutes. He repaid his manager’s confidence by scoring an 86th- minute goal to earn PSV a narrow and hard-fought 1-0 victory in Venlo. “What a classy finish”, said Van Bommel.
The Mexican striker produced the first goal threat on 82 minutes when he sent an effort across the face of goal and two minutes later he scored the only goal of the match with a classy finish. “Chucky put on a solid and fine display”, said Van Bommel. “He worked hard and had great pace and movement. He knows how to find space between the lines and grabbed a crucial goal. What a classy finish!” Van Bommel was asked if he was relieved after seeing his side snatch a late win. “Not at all”, he said jokingly, smiling brightly. “Of course we breathed a big sigh of relief when we had bagged the three points. VVV-Venlo provided tough opposition on their artificial turf pitch.”
PSV captain Luuk de Jong was also happy with Lozano’s strike. “We had a tough time and found it hard to break down VVV-Venlo’s stubborn defence. But fortunately we have Chucky”, said De Jong. “We lacked pace today and accuracy with the final ball.” PSV once again struck in the closing stages. “But we should not leave it late to secure a win. We have cutting edge up front and should use those qualities.”
