Cody Gakpo made his last appearance in a home game this season. The home crowd did not stop chanting the name of the striker, born and raised in Eindhoven. Speaking to the press after the game, he admitted to having mixed feelings and emotions, when he looked back at the 3-2 win over N.E.C.
Disappointed in the end
“We started the game brightly and we got the result we wanted in our last home game of the season. We knew what was going on in the Johan Cruyff Arena. We grabbed the three points but yet I’m disappointed in the end that we could not be crowned champions.”
Roger Schmidt took charge in his final home game as PSV head coach. Cody Gakpo is happy with the way the head coach and he have been cooperating. “I like to work with him. He is clear and straight and has put across intensity to the team. He’s taught the players, including me, a lot.”
The fans unfolded banners after the final whistle to show their appreciation for Cody Gakpo and it had not gone unnoticed. “It was a great gesture. I felt I needed to put my signature on their banner. It is great to feel their appreciation.”
