Mark van Bommel has a clear vision of the direction he wishes to take PSV. “I like to introduce a direct and dominant style of play but in the end football is all about winning games.”
Put across ideas
Van Bommel revealed his tactical plans for the upcoming season when he was unveiled to the press as PSV’s new head coach on Thursday afternoon. “As a player I was already interested in trying new tactical plans and I made many notes. I learnt a lot from the coaches I worked with in my career. How to get along with players and a squad and how to put across your ideas. I also saw things I would never use on the training pitch. I have a clear vision of the way I want my side to play and I will try to put my ideas across as quickly as possible.”
Backroom staff
Van Bommel’s backroom staff, including his assistant Reinier Robbemond, will play a prominent role in realising his ambitions. “I did the professional coaching course with Reinier Robbemond and made some trips abroad with him. “We share the same visions and I think this is crucial to realise our aims and objectives.”
Van Marwijk
Van Bommel confirmed at the press conference that his father-in-law, former Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk, will take up an advisory role in his coaching staff. “He has won the UEFA Cup and reached the World Cup final, so it would be rather silly not to ask for his advices. One week he will be on the training pitch and another week he will be in the stand to watch the game. He will take up an informal advisory role, providing an experienced sounding board, just the way I wish.”
