Malen: “We’ve done well under the circumstances”

Donyell Malen lived up to his reputation of goal scoring hero after he bagged a brace to help PSV to a 2-1 victory against Omonia Nicosia “We’ve done well under the circumstances”, said Donyell, who captained the side in the absence of Denzel Dumfries. “We’ve coped as well as possible.”

Donyell was very happy with the late win. “It’s a wonderful feeling. We lost several of our players due to the coronavirus and Teze only joined us on match day. It was a difficult week, so it’s great to experience the sweet taste of victory. As a team, we adapted to the circumstances quickly.”

Jordan Teze shared Malen’s views. The defender was added to the squad only on Thursday and put in a convincing display for the full 90 minutes. “It’s been a long day and I’m pleased we’ve snatched a win at the death”, said Teze, who also looked back at the hectic build-up to the game. “When we were about to take off, I was told I would be denied entry in Cyprus. And today I was given permission to travel to the island. It was not easy but I kept focusing on the game. We badly needed this win.”
