PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet , who accompanied Mark van Bommel at the pre-match conference, expects FC Basel to give their all to progress in the UEFA Champions League. “Their coach Marcel Koller rested several of his key players, which says it all.”
Koller rang the changes for the league encounter with Sankt Gallen last Saturday and the team that finished second in the Swiss League last season slipped to a 2-1 defeat in their own stadium. “FC Basel clearly want to knock PSV out of the tournament. They need a win after losing the first leg in Eindhoven 3-2. I think we are favourites to go through, but they will fight for every inch and try and win the game”, said Zoet.
PSV were the better team against FC Basel in the Philips Stadion but things did not go their way when the Swiss took a 2-1 lead from a corner. “Conceding two goals was very disappointing”, admitted Zoet. “But fortunately we were well prepared, showed resilience and scored two late goals to turn things around.”
PSV could never stage a fightback against Ajax last Saturday, though. The hosts took the lead after only 36 seconds. Daley Blind doubled the lead after the break. “We reviewed the game together on Sunday and we know what went wrong. We also know we must improve and it’s up to us to prove we can win the game.”
