
The Netherlands took on Greece for a 2014 Euro qualifier in the Philips Stadion on Thursday night. A large contingent of former PSV stars and PSV current first-team players was called into action. Joey Veerman as well as Noa Lang started on the bench.
The Oranje
At half-time, the Oranje were 3-0 up, with former PSV stars Denzel Dumfries and Cody Gakpo producing an excellent performance. Joey Veerman, in particular, had reason to celebrate after the game as his girl-friend gave birth to a baby boy called Frenkie Joe Veerman. Netherlands coach Ronald introduced Noal Lang and the brand-new father after the break as substitutes in the 2014 Euro qualifier against The Republic of Ireland on Sunday night. The Dutch came from behind to register a 2-1 victory in Dublin.
Isaac Bababi will never forget The Netherlands’ 3-0 victory over Moldavia U23. He not only made his international debut but also capped a fine performance with the second goal for his team, in the 67th minute.
USA
The United States men’s national soccer team recorded a 3-0 win over Uzbekistan in an international friendly in St. Louis on Saturday. PSV striker Ricardo Pepi came off the bench at half-time to score the second goal for his side. He fired a fierce shot from the edge of the penalty area that Uzbekistan’s goalkeeper failed to keep out, Another substitute, PSV midfielder Malik Tillman, was fouled in the box and Pulisic converted the resulting penalty. Final score: 3-0. PSV defender Sergiño Dest played the full 90 minutes. The Americans will be back in action on Wednesday 13 September against Oman in another international friendly.
Belgium, Morocco and Argentina
PSV forward Johan Bakayoko played on the right wing for Belgium when they faced Azerbaijan on Saturday night. The Red Devils claimed a 1-0 win. Babayoko, who had earned his fourth cap for Belgium, attempted to shoot on target in the 38th minute and Yannick Carrasco pounced on the rebound to score the only goal to give Belgium a 1-0 win. Belgium are not top of their Euro 2014 qualifying group and take Estonia on Tuesday.
PSV goalkeeper Walter Benítez looks to make his international debut on Tuesday, 12 September, when Argentina travel to La Pax for a World Cup qualifying clash with Bolivia. PSV midfielder/attacker Ismael Saibari was called up to represent his country Morocco but the African Cup qualifying game against Liberia has been postponed in the wake of the earthquake that struck the country.
