Gastón Pereiro revealed at the press conference ahead of the clash between PSV and FC Barcelona that he had had a chat with Luis Suárez about Wednesday evening’s match. It was announced on Monday, though, that he would not meet his fellow countryman. “I’m sure someone else will take his place”, was the Uruguayan’s matter-of-fact answer.
Pereiro made his 100th appearance for PSV last Saturday and has been involved with ten Eredivisie goals this season (seven goals and three assists). He also provided the assist for Luuk de Jong’s opening goal in the 2-1 Champions League defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. “I feel very much at home here in the Netherlands”, confirmed Pereiro. “This will be a unique game. I really enjoy.” Asked if he is a Messi fan, the Uruguayan midfielder replied: “Definitely! I’m very happy that I get to play against him. He is such a great player.”
Gastón Pereiro faced Luis Suárez in the match at Camp Nou but he will not play against his fellow countryman in the Philips Stadion on Wednesday evening. Luis Suárez has sustained an injury and did not join his Barca team mates for the trip to Eindhoven. “We had a chat when we were away on international duty. He will not play against us, which means that another player will get an opportunity to shine.“ Pereiro is confident PSV will perform well. “We put in a fine first-half display in Spain but Messi’s opening goal turned the game upside down. We will have to play a compact game, see a lot of the ball and try and create chances.”
