With two games to go, Ajax and PSV are neck and neck at the summit of the Eredivisie table. They both have 80 points but Ajax are top, due to goal difference ( Ajax +81, PSV +71). So Mark van Bommel’s team need a win when they take on AZ in the AFAS Stadion on Sunday afternoon.
Mark van Bommel has made one change for this afternoon’s clash. Cody Gakpo is included in the starting line-up, replacing Hirving Lozano who sustained a serious knee injury against Willem II seventeen days ago. Jeroen Zoet is in goal, Daniel Schwaab and Nick Viergever start at the heart of defence with Denzel Dumfries and Angelino in the full-back positions. Pablo Rosario and captain Luuk de Jong anchor PSV’s midfield that also includes Czech youngster Michal Sadilek. Donyell Malen again spearheads the attack, with Steven Bergwijn and Cody Gakpo providing support from the wings. Referee Danny Makkelie has been selected to take charge of the game. Kick-off is at 14.30.
Luuk de Jong
Luuk de Jong has meanwhile taken his goal scoring tally for the season to 28 and is thus two goals away from netting 30 league goals in one season. If he succeeds in doing so, he will follow in the footsteps of former PSV stars Coen Dillen (43 goals in the 1956/57 and 1959/60 season), Ronaldo, (30 goals in the 1998/99 campaign), Ruud van Nistelrooy (31 goals in the 1998/99 season) and Mateja Kezman (35 goals in the 202/03 season and 31 goals in the 2003/04 Eredivisie campaign).
