Focus is crucial in Istanbul

PSV face Galatasaray SK in Istanbul on Wednesday evening in the second leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. Roger Schmidt’s team will defend their 5-1 lead from the first leg in Eindhoven. “We have taken a significant step towards reaching the next qualifying round, but we are only half way.”

The match between Galatasaray and PSV will take place in the Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadion due to maintenance of the Türk Telekom Stadium, Galatasaray’s home ground. Some 8400 fans will be in the stadium to cheer their favourite team. Olivier Boscagli expects a tough game. “We made a  significant step last week but we will have to show intensity, energy and focus. We know that Galatasaray will be ready for the challenge.”

Schmidt also realises that this game is far from over. “It is half-time in a two-legged tie. Galatasaray is a club with a rich history. They have a great manager who I greatly admire. He means so much to Turkish football and we know that we have to put on another convincing display.”

New partner in the heart of defence
Jordan Teze partnered Olivier Boscagli in the heart of defence last season, but Brazilian centre back André Ramalho played alongside the Frenchman in the first European game of the season. “André brings fresh energy to the team. He has gained a wealth of experience, playing on the European stage. I am glad he has bolstered the defence and I am sure I can learn a lot from him.”
