Facts & figures on FC Groningen

FC Groningen have not met the expectations set by them at the start of the season. Ernest Faber’s side, sitting in twelfth place in the league table, have sixteen points from fifteen games and were held to a 2-2 draw by Roda JC Kerkrade last weekend.

A fearsome home reputation
FC Groningen have developed a fearsome home reputation, slipping to just three defeats in their last twenty games in Nordlease Stadion, their home ground. But they suffered two of these three defeats in their last three home games.

Mimoun Mahi is FC Groningen’s leading scorer. He was dropped from the squad after falling out with team Lars Veldwijk but has meanwhile been recalled to the starting XI. The Moroccan winger has netted six goals this season so far.

Faber and PSV
FC Groningen head coach Ernest Faber once was a PSV player and also was assistant coach to Phillip Cocu. When Cocu underwent surgery in 2014, Faber was caretaker manager and was in charge for the first time when PSV hosted FC Groningen. The visitors enjoyed a 3-2 win; it was the last time they ran out winners against PSV.
