The last two encounters between PSV and FC Groningen in Eindhoven, on 28 August 2016 and 6 May 2018, ended goalless. FC Groningen have never before extended un unbeaten run against PSV in the Philips Stadion to three matches.

FC Groningen savoured the sweet taste of league victory away at PSV in only one of 39 games (W1-D9-D29). They registered a 2-3 win in the Philips Stadion on 29 March 2014, with Tjaronn Chery scoring a 64th-minute winner.

PSV dropped points in their first two games after the winter break only one time in 25 seasons. They were held to a 1-1 draw at Roda JC and settled for a 2-2 draw at home to NAC.

PSV have scored 62 goals in 19 league games so far. They only did better in the 1987/88 season (79 goals) and the 1995/96 campaign (65 goals).

Win in first game  
PSV claimed victory in the first home game after the winter break for five seasons in a row. They last suffered defeat in their opening game of the new year on 18 January 2013, when PEC Zwolle ran out 1-3 winners.

PSV have remained unbeaten in their last 40 Eredivisie games in the Philips Stadion (W36-D4-D0). They last slipped to defeat on 18 September 2016, 0-1 against Feyenoord. PSV enjoyed only three longer unbeaten spells in the Dutch league:  93 matches in 1983/89, 53 matches in 1989/92 and 44 matches in 1974/76.

Set pieces 
Just like sc Heerenveen, PSV have scored 16 goals from set-pieces this season so far, more than any other Eredivisie team. PSV scored most goals from set pieces in four of the six preceding seasons.

Luuk de Jong netted a goal for PSV in six of the last seven home games. If PSV’s captain manages to find the back of the net on Saturday, he will have scored one hundred goals in a PSV shirt.

One booking away from suspension 
Hirving Lozano has been shown a yellow card four times this season so far. The Mexican is consequently one booking away from suspension. A fifth yellow card means he will miss the game at home to Fortuna Sittard.

Win against Heracles 
FC Groningen thrashed Heracles Almelo 3-0 at home in their first game in 2019. They won two opening games in succession in the new year only one time before. They recorded a 0-3 win at ADO Den Haag and a 1-0 victory at home to De Graafschap at the start of 2005.
